L'Alphabet D'Orsay as Reinterpreted through the M/M (Paris) x WILDSIDE Collaboration

We dive deep into a new collaborative collection that fuses art and fashion, through the drawings of Mathias Augustyniak of M/M (Paris).

A collaboration between WILDSIDE and M/M (Paris), a creative unit started by Mathias Augustyniak and Michaël Amzalag in 1992 active in many fields including graphic design, typography, art, and fashion has become reality.

The design motif for the collaboration items is L'Alphabet D'Orsay.

L'Alphabet D'Orsay is a renowned hand-written typography created by Mathias Augustyniak of M/M (Paris) and inspired by twenty-six artists whose work is enshrined in the Musee D’Orsay. Using a fountain pen like a “human seismograph,” Augustyniak captured the essence of figures such as Rosa Bonheur, Henri Fantin-Latour, Émile Zola, and Édouard Manet, constructing their initials with motifs drawn from their works.

This collaboration with WILDSIDE reinterprets L'Alphabet D'Orsay, introducing items that have recaptured those designs.

The INITIAL SERIES and ALL OVER SERIES are designed with the initials “M”, “Y”, and “W”. The ARTWORK SERIES is a layered piece within a dynamic composition, and presents letters alongside illustrations based on Van Gogh, Manet, Gaugin, and Zola.

The collection uses black and white as foundational colors but emphasizes the synergies between typography and imagery by using accent colors such as orange, brown, and yellow. The intricate details that showcase M/M (Paris)’s pursuit of perfection is the highlight of the work.
The items of this collection are special, giving the impression of a bridge between art history and modern design through M/M (Paris) transforming fashion into a wearable canvas.

“Typography has always been at the core of our practice—not just as a tool for communication, but as a space for reinvention,” say M/M’s Mathias Augustyniak and Michaël Amzalag.
“With Yohji Yamamoto, we’ve found a natural resonance—a shared language that looks to history to reshape the present”.

M/M (Paris) and Yohji Yamamoto first met in the year 1994.
Beginning in the production of an invitation letter for their boutique opening in Paris, they created many different campaigns, publications, and catalogues between the late 1990s and early 2000s. Even now, 30 years later, their creative dialogue continues.

Today, M/M (Paris) continues to challenge the borders of typography, visual storytelling, and contemporary design, while Yohji Yamamoto continues to challenge the borders of tailoring and the artistic spirit of rebellion.
