About Artworks:
An edition featuring ten images from Daido Moriyama’s seminal title Farewell Photography. The edition, produced to commemorate the presentation of William Klein + Daido Moriyama at London’s Tate Modern (October 10, 2012 – January 20, 2013), consists of black and white prints produced from digitally archived originals, subsequently reproduced in the media of silkscreen on paper. The silkscreen prints are produced by Tokyo-based Edition Works, responsible for the acclaimed 2011 Moriyama edition ACCIDENT.
The 2012 Farewell Photography silkscreen prints exist as a genuine extension of Moriyama’s original, most extreme project; pixelated virtual images realized in the tactile media of silkscreen on paper suggest that contradictions enlivening Moriyama’s 1972 series, distinct within his oeuvre for expressing a near total disregard for photographic convention, remain vital within present-day practice.

Artist bio:
森山大道 / Daido Moriyama
1938年大阪府池田市生まれ。グラフィックデザイナーを経て、写真家岩宮武二および細江英公のアシスタントとなり、1964年に独立。1968年写真集 『にっぽん劇場写真帖』 、1972年写真集 『写真よさようなら』を発表。アレ・ブレ・ボケと呼ばれる荒れた粒子、焦点がブレた不鮮明な画面、ノーファインダーによる傾いた構図を特徴とした、既存の写真制度を覆すラディカルな表現で写真界を震撼させた。その評価は内外の美術界に及び、世界各国で大規模な展覧会が開催されている。「William Klein + Daido Moriyama」テート・モダン（ロンドン、2012年)、「オン・ザ・ロード」国立国際美術館（大阪、2011年）、「レトロスペクティヴ 1965-2005、ハワイ/ HAWAII」東京都写真美術館（東京、2008年）のほか、アンダルシア現代美術センター（セビリア、2007年）、Foam写真美術館（アムステルダム、2006年）、カルティエ現代美術財団（パリ、2003年）、ヴィンタートゥール美術館（2000年）、サンフランシスコ近代美術館（1999年、メトロポリタン美術館巡回）にて個展を開催。ハッセルブラッド国際写真賞（2019年）、国際写真センター（ニューヨーク）Infinity Award功労賞（2012年)、ドイツ写真協会・文化功労賞(2004年)、日本写真協会 作家賞(2004年)、第 44 回毎日芸術賞(2003年)、日本写真批評家協会新人賞(1967年)を受賞。
