Designer Ryota Murakami and his mother, Chiaki Murakami, started "RYOTAMURAKAMI" in the spring/summer of 2014.
The name was changed to "pillings" in the spring/summer of 2021, and Ryota Murakami is the sole designer.

The name "pilling" means a ball of fur, and the plural "-s" is added to the word "pilling" to express the brand's wish that customers will continue to wear the garments with care until a ball of fur is formed. Just like the balls of fur that are created by friction, each season's designs are created through constant communication and trial and error with the craftsmen.
