MOSS STUDIO launched in November of 2021 by four individuals each of different ages, thought processes, genders, and professions.
Their individual quirks were disparate with no commonality, and they began their creative endeavors as they pleased, as though they had returned to their childhoods.
Together with their creativity, the distortions birthed by deep rumination during their enjoyment are elevated into a single creative output.
They produce their films and graphic design work in-house, keeping to a policy of producing every piece of their work by hand from scratch.
Everything is developed independently, from artwork to apparel, jewelry, and even home goods.
Their 2024 film MATAGI (叉鬼-MATAGI) was chosen as a Recommended Watch by NOWNESS ASIA.
This collaboration produces an item that follows their film's imagery.
MATAGI (叉鬼-MATAGI) is a film starring Mr. Go Morita, and written and directed by film creator OSRIN, who has worked on music videos and key visuals for artists such as King Gnu, and produced by MOSS STUDIO.

It is a story that depicts the grief that lingers whether awake or in your dreams. In the film a matagi, a traditional Japanese winter hunter, has lost a loved one and is consumed by emptiness when they suddenly encounter an otherworldly beast in a dark forest.

The film depicts the Matagi as he becomes entranced by the beast and eventually departs on a long journey crossing the distance between this realm and the next.

The hair-covered yokai that so entrances the Matagi is based on the Kejōrō, a yokai from Edo Period artist Toriyama Sekien's Konjaku Gazu It forms the main motif for the Matagi. It forms the main motif for the hand-embroidery of the Matagi Jumper, the collaboration item.
